Course Title: Tactical Patrol Officer Training (TPO)

Course Overview: The Tactical Patrol Officer (TPO) course is a 24-hour intensive training program aimed at enhancing the preparedness, survival skills, and confidence of frontline patrol officers. By providing essential tactical knowledge and hands-on experience, this course empowers officers to effectively respond to elevated threats, critical incidents, and ambush situations.

Course Objectives:

  1. Awareness and Mental Preparedness:
    • Understand the importance of situational awareness and maintaining a vigilant mindset.
    • Explore strategies for mental readiness in high-stress scenarios.
  2. Psychological and Physiological Effects of Violent Encounters:
    • Delve into the impact of stress, adrenaline, and fear during critical incidents.
    • Learn how physiological responses affect decision-making and performance.
  3. Search and Entry Tactics:
    • Master deliberate and dynamic search techniques for buildings and confined spaces.
    • Gain proficiency in single-officer response tactics.
  4. Cover and Concealment:
    • Recognize effective use of cover and concealment during engagements.
    • Practice tactical positioning for maximum protection.
  5. Breaching Techniques: Mechanical and Ballistic:
    • Understand breaching methods for gaining entry into structures.
    • Explore both mechanical (tools) and ballistic (explosive) breaching.
  6. Basic Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC):
    • Learn life-saving medical interventions for self-aid and buddy care.
    • Address injuries commonly encountered in the field.
  7. Officer Rescue and Recovery in Hot Zones:
    • Develop strategies for extracting injured officers from dangerous situations.
    • Understand the importance of teamwork and communication.
  8. Counter Ambush Tactics:
    • Prepare for sudden attacks and ambush scenarios.
    • Practice rapid deployment and effective response.
  9. Tactical Vehicle Assaults:
    • Explore techniques for engaging threats in and around vehicles.
    • Cover vehicle approaches, exits, and use of cover.
  10. Tactical Handgun and Rifle Operations:
    • Enhance marksmanship skills with both handgun and rifle platforms.
    • Understand reloads, malfunction drills, and shooting on the move.

Student Equipment:

  • Training uniform/BDU
  • Gun belt
  • Vest
  • Duty firearm with 3 magazines
  • Eye and ear protection
  • Gloves
  • 300 rounds of handgun ammunition
  • Rifle with 2 magazines
  • 300 rounds of rifle ammunition
  • 25 rounds of 12-gauge frangible ammunition
  • Optional: 12-gauge shotgun (one will be available for use)

Host Requirements:

  • A room with video/audio capabilities for presentations.
  • An area suitable for building clearing exercises (rooms and hallways).
  • A range with target stands and backers for movement drills.
  • Access to a saw and screw gun for assembling ballistic breaching stands.
  • One 8-foot 2x4 per student for ballistic breaching.
  • A box of 2-inch screws.

Optional Host Equipment:

  • Breaching tools (Ram, Halligan) and/or breaching doors (mounted, damaged doors with hardware).

Upon successful completion of the TPO course, officers will receive a completion certificate and may proudly wear the Tactical Patrol Officer (TPO) pin on their uniform, subject to approval by their administration.

Cancellation Policy

At BSTS LLC, we understand that sometimes plans change. Our course cancellation policy is designed to ensure fairness and maximize training opportunities for all participants. Please take note of the following key points:

  1. Notice Period:
    • To cancel your attendance in a course, we require a minimum of 15 days’ notice before the course start date.
    • Notify us via email through our website.
  2. Consequences of Late Cancellation:
    • If you cancel with less than 15 days’ notice, a department credit will be issued. This credit can be used toward another future training event within one year from the original course date.
    • No-shows without prior email notification will be charged the full course fee, even if payment hasn’t been made yet.
  3. Future Course Credit:
    • For any no-shows who are charged the full course fee, we offer a one-year future course credit.
    • This credit allows you to attend a different training event within the next year.
  4. Why We Have This Policy:
    • Our goal is to provide quality training to as many officers as possible.
    • Some students register for courses but don’t attend, which prevents others from taking those slots.
    • We compensate our instructors based on the number of officers scheduled to attend, and our travel costs are tied to registration fees.
  5. Your Agreement:
    • By registering for any course, you agree to abide by this cancellation policy.
